By: Bob Hurt, a longtime sports columnist for The Arizona Republic who also worked at newspapers in Kansas and Oklahoma, has died. He was 84.
Family members said Hurt died here Saturday from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Hurt was hired by the Republic in 1976. He previously was a sports columnist and managing editor of the Topeka Daily Capital in Kansas, and sports columnist at the Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City.
Hurt retired from the Republic in 1992 but continued to contribute columns until 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Marylin, plus a daughter, grandson and four stepchildren.
Funeral services were pending.
