By: E&P Staff Lawrence "Sonny" Albarado has been named projects editor for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Albarado, 56, formerly was news editor for The Commercial Appeal in Memphis. In addition, he was projects editor at the Appeal for 10 years.
In his new capacity, the Louisiana native will supervise the Democrat-Gazette's investigative and long-term stories.
Albarado's journalism career began in 1970 as as editor of the school newspaper, Nicholls Worth, at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. After serving as a grad assistant at Mississippi State University, he went to work as a reporter for the Houma (La.) Daily Courier.
After stints in New Orleans as the associate editor for Coin Industry Play-Meter magazine and as editor of the Donaldsonville Chief, a weekly paper near Baton Rouge, Albarado was hired in the late '70s by The Morning Advocate in Baton Rouge to serve as its bureau chief in Gonzales, La. He went on to hold various reporting and editing positions with the Advocate, and was financial editor when he left in 1989 to join The Commercial Appeal.
