The Associated Press has named Marilynn Marchione chief medical writer. She regularly produces some the AP’s most high-impact enterprise, demystifies complicated medical studies and mentors other writers.

Marchione will play a larger role in working with regional desks worldwide to help them shape smart ideas as the AP strives to build an even greater distinctive presence in health coverage.

Last year, the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing awarded her the Victor Cohn Prize for Excellence in Medical Science Reporting for a body of work over five years--one of the highest national awards for medical writing.
