By: E&P Staff The Boston Globe's Boston.com launched a new "Snowplow Game" on the site today in a move intended to draw more Web traffic and interest.
The Barbarian Group LLC created the game, which allows players to steer their virtual plows through post-blizzard Boston's snow-clogged streets, past city landmarks like Fenway Park and the John Hancock tower. The goal: Sweep the streets, collect peppermints, points, and snowflakes before time runs out, and get the high score. The top ten scorers will be publicly ranked on the site.
"Now local residents will have something to do at home while they're hiding from the snow," said Stephanie Shore, director of marketing for Boston.com, in a statement.
The
Snowplow Game is part of Boston.com's Get Wrapped campaign, which builds local awareness of the newspaper and will continue through the end of the year. Other elements of the campaign include promotional taxi signs, scratch 'n' sniff peppermint postcards, a print campaign doubling as holiday gift wrap, and mobile billboards circling crowded shopping areas.
The game will be available at Boston.com until all of the (real) snow melts.
