Atex Inks Deal with Publications Printer

Posted
By: E&P Staff Shepherdsville, Ky.-based magazine printer Publishers Press signed an OEM agreement for the Atex Polopoly Web content management system and Atex Text Mining engine for delivery to its 500 customers and 1,200 titles under a Software as a Service (SaaS) model.

Publishers Press is creating a fully integrated content-distribution services platform for its customers.

"We wanted technologies that would allow us to dissect content and serve it up to various digital channels," Publishers Press Director of e-Opportunities Debbie Glasscock said in a statement, citing Polopoly's "modular infrastructure with quite a bit of out-of-the-box functionality and components you can plug-in and support quickly."

"Nearly every one of our customers has Web domains that correspond to their publications," Publishers Press Executive Vice President Michael Simon said in announcing the agreement. Expecting many to have little experience with an advanced Web content management system, Publishers Press looked for ease of use. Polopoly uses point-and-click graphical interfaces, while Atex Text Mining offers automatic metadata searches and categorizations.

The SaaS arrangement also allows Publishers Press rather than its customers to assume responsibility for software maintenance, upgrades and training.
