By: E&P Staff The Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced Sunday during the Nexpo equipment show that it has agreed to purchase from TKS (USA) Inc. six ColorTop 7000 H-style towers for its press enhancement project.
The new towers, with upgraded press controls by ABB, will go on line by November 2008, the paper said.
The towers are part of the Cox Enterprises Inc.-owned newspaper's previously announced plan to upgrade printing equipment and technology at its Gwinnett County production facility.
"This investment will provide additional page, color, and section capacity, yielding a brighter, more attractive and more colorful newspaper for readers and advertisers," Journal-Constitution Vice President of Operations Stan Pantel said in a statement.
"This order is a very important milestone for our company," said Noriyuki Shiba, president of TKS (USA)'s parent company.
TKS has installed more than 5,555 ColorTop printing couples since 1993.
TKS (USA) President Greg Harabin said the company was pleased that the Journal-Constitution was sticking with the manufacturer for the press upgrade. "Our existing customers in the U.S.A. can testify to the equipment quality and service we provide," he said in a statement.
