By: E&P Staff Plastic Logic is using AT&T's 3G network to deliver data to its forthcoming e-readers, slated to hit market in 2010.
The reader, which will be Wi-Fi enabled, will measure about 8.5 inches high and 11 inches long, and has the feel of a stiff plastic placemat.
On Tuesday, Barnes & Noble announced it has
teamed up with Plastic Logic's e-reader device for its new eBookstore.
"We're extremely proud to be able to offer the Plastic Logic Reader with the nation's fastest 3G network through AT&T," Richard Archuleta, Plastic Logic's CEO, said in a statement. "This alliance is a pillar in our strategy to provide mobile business professionals with a device that delivers a great reading experience, and is fully connected through 3G and Wi-Fi to deliver easy access to digital content."
The reader, which will have a new name once it comes to market, is like a digital briefcase. It has the ability to carry newspapers, books, magazines and periodicals, as well as documents in Word, PDF, Power Point and Excel formats.
AT&T said devices on its network work in more than 200 countries and has more than 20,000 hotspots in the U.S.
