By: E&P Staff Michael J. Rifanburg has been appointed publisher of The Citizen and Cayuga Media Co. in Auburn, N.Y. He is promoted from advertising director.
Rifanburg served as interim publisher since October, when the previous publisher, Rick Emanuel, left to join another Lee Enterprises property, The Post-Star in Glens Falls, N.Y.
?It is ideal that we found a terrific successor to Rick Emanuel right here in Auburn,? Rona Rahlf, Lee Enterprises group executive, said in a statement. ?Because of his many years of personal and professional involvement in the Cayuga County community, Mike will be able to build quickly on those relationships as publisher.?
An employee of the Citizen in 2003, Rifanburg joined as retail advertising manager and was named advertising director in 2005. His 24-year newspaper career includes management and sales positions at Scotsman Community Publications in Syracuse, The Daily Star in Oneonta, the Press & Sun Bulletin in Binghamton and The Evening Sun in Norwich, all in New York.
