By: E&P Staff The Austin (Texas) American-Statesman has ordered six palletizers and two bundle conveyor systems from Schur Packaging Systems, Schaumburg, Ill., a subsidiary of Schur International, Horsens, Denmark.
The Cox newspaper expects to begin installation of the equipment in its plant next spring to manage distribution of its 173,579 daily and 215,894 Sunday copies.
The American-Statesman order includes six Winrob III Palletizers, which will be configured as three double cells, each with a new PSW stretch wrapper. The Winrob III is fully automatic and can handle tied and untied bundles at speeds of up to 35 bundles per minute. The American-Statesman will produce only tied bundles.
The paper also has ordered two stacked TLBC bundle-distribution systems. These loading bay conveyor systems will deliver tied bundles to the palletizers and to five other dock positions.
The operations will be controlled by the TPS production management system, which will be integrated into the paper's distribution system, and can also be interfaced to third-party applications.
