'Austin American-Statesman' Converts CTP to Southern Litho's Plates

By: E&P Staff Cox Newspapers' Austin (Texas) American-Statesman has contracted with Southern Lithoplate Inc., Wake Forest, N.C., to convert from a competing thermal plate system to Southern Lithoplate Viper 830 plates. The newspaper is in the final stage of converting its third platemaking line.

After using computer to plate technology for more than two years, "we made the decision to convert to Southern Litho plates for quality reasons, Pressroom Manager Frank Mento said in a statement, citing a "drastic improvement in the reproduction quality" with the Viper plates, "particularly in areas containing large solids."
