Australian Newspapers Feeling the Pinch

A depressed retail environment and the relentless migration of readers to digital platforms have prompted further declines in newspaper circulation.

Audit Bureau of Circulation data showed newspaper sales fell by 4.2 per cent in the three months to June 30 compared with same period last year.

The slide was widespread, with just one metropolitan masthead - Melbourne's The Sunday Age - bucking the trend with a 1.1 per cent rise in paid sales.
