By: E&P Staff The Australian Financial Review financial and business daily has moved production of its digital channel to the M?thode Portal Server Web content management system from EidosMedia, Milan, Italy, and New York.
The change is part of a reorganization that merged the paper's print and Web operations into a multiple-media newsroom. Print production is scheduled to move onto the M?thode platform early next year.
"The opportunity of the new platform was to truly combine our newspaper, magazine and Web operations," Financial Review Group Chief Executive and Editor-in-Chief Michael Gill said in a statement.
The platform automatically manages subscriber access to the paper's digital channel (www.afr.com), by incorporating a digital rights management feature that allows articles to be read only by bona fide subscribers. Copying and pasting outside the subscriber's browser renders them illegible.
Gill called the platform "noticeably faster than the old system in every respect," adding that writers see updates published online almost immediately, reader response is faster, and new-section roll-outs are easier.
AFR also uses M?thode's News Planning, a shared workspace where proposals for news coverage can be linked to text and media sources before being assigned and entering the workflow.
After the print edition of the Australian Financial Review next month, the project will transfer to M?thode the Business Review Weekly magazine and its associated portal, followed by the group's other titles.
Financial Review Group also publishes the monthly Smart Investor and several professional and special-interest magazines (each with an online edition) aimed at the Australian, New Zealand and Asian markets.
