Axios names Holly Moore executive editor of Axios Local

Holly Moore has taken on a new role as executive editor of Axios Local, joined by eight new members across the Axios Local team: 

  • Moyo Adelou joins the Axios Chicago team as a social host.
  • Sommer Brugal joins the Axios Miami team as a reporter. 
  • Gregory Castillo will join the Axios Texas team as a social host.
  • Joseph Gallivan joins the Axios Portland team as a reporter.
  • Audrey Kennedy is now a social host on the Axios Twin Cities team.
  • Sabrina Moreno returns to Axios reporting with the Axios Richmond team. 
  • Justin Mack joins the Axios Indianapolis team as a reporter. 
  • Claire Reilly will join the Axios San Francisco team as a social host. 
  • Andrew Ricketts joins the Axios Local team as the director of social. 

Why it matters: Integrating visual-first, social-first reporting with Moore’s managerial and strategic skills will help grow Axios Local to the next level.

By the numbers: Since its start in 2021, Axios Local has reached 1.9M subscribers across 30 cities. 

  • Last year, Axios Local grew paid membership by 214% and had 150 additional sends.

  • Holly Moore previously worked at USA Today as the senior director of audience, planning, and operations before joining Axios as managing editor of the hub. While there, she helped shape workflow for the local-to-national USA Today Network.
  • Moyo Adelou joins from The Branch where she worked as a video producer and social host. Prior to The Branch, she was a reporter at Ad Age.
  • Sommer Brugal joins from the Miami Herald where she covered the country’s third-largest school district and state education policy. During her time at the Herald she broke both local and national stories affecting education. 
  • Gregory Castillo previously worked as a multimedia content creator in the cultural sector at the Dallas Museum of Art and Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Prior to working in museums, he was a photojournalist at the Dallas Morning News.
  • Joseph Gallivan joins from the Portland Tribune where he was a features and news reporter. Gallivan also presents a weekly show called Art Focus on KBOO Community Radio.
  • Audrey Kennedy works on the Axios Twin Cities team as a reporter covering lifestyle and has led their Instagram account since 2021. Prior to Axios, Kennedy was a community reporter at Southwest News Media. 
  • Justin Mack joins from Financial Planning where he was a podcaster and reporter. Before Financial Planning, Mack covered breaking news, public safety, and community trends at The Indianapolis Star. 
  • Sabrina Moreno first joined Axios as a 2022 health care fellow where she focused on federal drug policies, the opioid epidemic, and mental health. Prior to the fellowship, Moreno covered public health at the Richmond Times-Dispatch. 
  • Claire Reilly joins from CNET where she was part of their video team covering science and space. She has written and hosted a number of video and podcast series including "Making Space: The Female Frontier" and "Hacking the Apocalypse," which won her the 2021 Webby Award for Best Web Personality.
  • Andrew Ricketts previously worked as the director of content at Tastemade. Ricketts has also spent the past six years as a self-employed content writer and social media strategist.
