'Bad Cartoonist' Blogger Slams Other Cartoonists

By: E&P Staff Criticizing things is practically the job description of editorial cartoonists. Now, they're getting criticized themselves on the recently launched "Bad Cartoonist" blog.

The anonymous blogger, who's apparently a cartoonist, was just interviewed via e-mail by Daily Cartoonist blogger Alan Gardner. The Q&A, various comments, and a link to the "Bad Cartoonist" blog can be seen here.

"Bad Cartoonist" explained to Gardner why the blog was launched: "I guess I started it because I got pissed off because of all the crap I hear from other cartoonists about how our profession is dying and how someone else is to blame. There are some seriously talented cartoonists working right now. But there's more detritus than anything else. ... Someone has to say it so I guess it will be me. It's our fault too."

In the blog, "Bad Cartoonist" snarkily slams a number of cartoonists for unoriginal ideas, predictable takeoffs of movie posters, misuse of color, poor drawings of Hillary Clinton and other women, and more. Included are some personal insults against cartoonists.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
