By: E&P Staff Clarity Media Group is closing the Baltimore Examiner. The last edition of the free home-delivered paper is scheduled for Feb. 15. All 90 employees will lose their jobs, reported the Baltimore Business Journal.
Clarity also publishes in San Francisco and Washington D.C. The proximity of D.C. to Baltimore made it too difficult to operate the Baltimore edition. "It's not possible to maintain two major daily newspapers within a 50-mile distance and do justice to both publications," Ryan McKibben, CEO of Clarity, said in a statement.
In December, the Washington Examiner closed its plant and outsourced it printing to FNP, a subsidiary of The Frederick News-Post in Maryland and Vertis. The move included 101 layoffs.
