By: E&P Staff Linda Hutzler was named the Baltimore Sun's new vice president and chief technology officer, replacing Carol Sholes, who resigned in March, the newspaper announced Friday.

Hutzler is an information technology veteran who joined the Sun in 2002 to help develop and oversee a major new information system for the circulation department, the newspaper said. Her current project is implementing a new $8.4 million ad management system.

"More than a million readers count on us to get The Sun delivered during the week," said Baltimore Sun General Manager John Patinella in announcing Hutzler's appointment. "The technology that makes that possible is complex and demands leadership dedicated to honoring that commitment every single day. It also requires a leader who has the vision to see what this ever-changing world will require of our technology in the future. Linda brings experience, dedication and the well-earned respect of her peers to that formidable challenge."

Immediately prior to joining The Baltimore Sun, Hutzler managed technology projects for First American-CMSI, USF&G, now The St. Paul Company. The Carlisle, Penn., native graduated from Shippensburg State University. A volunteer for United Way of Central Maryland, she lives in Howard County with her husband Steve and their two children.
