By: E&P Staff The Baltimore Sun has received the 2010 certificate for use of Specifications for Newsprint Advertising Production (SNAP), the industry specification through the Newspaper Association of America that many newspapers and commercial printers use to assure reproduction quality.
"Receiving the SNAP certificate is a great accomplishment and reflects the superior job that our staff performs in keeping our processes and equipment highly tuned in order to provide consistent quality for our readers, advertisers and commercial print customers," Stephen G. Seidl, senior vice president of operations and technology for the Baltimore Sun Media Group, said in a statement.
The Sun scored high in SNAP's rigorous press test, according to SNAP Chairman Peter Brehm.
Reproduction quality, especially in four-color, is critical to newspaper advertising effectiveness. An NAA survey found four-color ads capture readers' attention 20% more than black-and-white ads.
"We understand that consumer response comes from clear messaging, and reproduction is essential to that mission," said Susan Duchin, BSMG Advertising Director for National, Majors and Direct Marketing. "Earning this certification demonstrates our investment in technology and processes, and how putting out the best product every day helps our advertisers receive the best possible exposure."
Tribune Co.'s Baltimore Sun Media Group also publishes baltimoresun.com, 30 community newspapers and magazines, and a portfolio of targeted print and online products. It also provides commercial printing services to other publishers, including the Washington Times, the New York Daily News and The Korea Daily.
