'Bangor Daily News' Executive Editor to Retire

By: Bangor Daily News Executive Editor A. Mark Woodward is going to retire at the end of the year.

The newspaper is reporting Woodward he made the decision after months of personal reflection and discussions with his wife.

Woodward joined the Daily News in 1971 as a city reporter. He became editorial page editor in 1982 and left the paper for eight months in 1997 to be communications director for Sen. Susan Collins in Washington. In the fall of that year he was named the paper's executive editor.

Woodward's retirement will become effective on Jan. 1.
