Barbara Peters Smith to become Herald-Tribune’s Opinions Editor


Barbara Peters Smith is the new opinions editor for the Herald-Tribune, succeeding Tom Tryon, who is retiring after 39 years at the media company.

Peters Smith has been an employee at the Herald-Tribune for two stints during the last 31 years. She also worked for the media company’s sister newspaper, the Gainesville Sun, under former Herald-Tribune publisher and executive editor Diane McFarlin, now dean of the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications.
