By: E&P Staff The Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism gave the $10,000 grand prize to MSNBC.com Monday for the site's "Big Picture" series -- guided tours of Iraq, the 2002 elections, and the Oscars.
The
Chicago Tribune was a runner-up for its 9/11 CD-ROM distributed on the first anniversary of the attacks.
The other runner-up, Minnesota Public Radio, was honored for a 19-page Web game challenging users to fix the state's $4.2 billion budget deficit.
Honorable mentions went to the
San Francisco Chronicle for its database of 1,450 residents who contribute to articles and opinion pieces, and to VillageSoup.com, which provides news to three Maine communities.
