B.C. Daily Undaunted by Transformer Troubles

Posted
By: Jim Rosenberg Production of today's edition of The Prince George (British Columbia) Citizen was delayed last night when a utility company electrical transformer outside the plant blew out and caught fire.

There were no injuries or equipment damage, according to Production Manager George Lesniewicz. "B.C. Hydro came here real quickly," he told E&P.

When the power failed, the press had printed about 3,000 copies of a press run that approaches17,000, according to the Citizen.

When the transformer in the alley outside went down, "we blew a transformer for out inserting equipment," Lesniewicz said. His crew wired the equipment directly, bypassing the failed transformer. The inserter ran without ill effect at the somewhat higher amperage, he reported.

Lesniewicz said the Citizen aims to have copies ready for trucks at 3:00 AM but usually sees the last truck out at 4:00. This morning the last truck was out at 5:05

"Actually, it wasn't a bad day at all," Lesniewicz remarked.
