By: E&P Staff A Belleville (Ill.) News-Democrat delivery worker was robbed early Monday in a public housing complex in East St. Louis by a thief who ordered him to strip, and apparently ran off with his clothes, the newspaper reported Tuesday.
The carrier, who was not named, apparently fled the scene unharmed before calling police, according to the newspaper account by Carolyn P. Smith.
"We found newspapers all over the place. We also found some shoes behind a car with the doors of the car wide open," said East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Baxton. Police believe the thief ordered the carrier to strip, and took his clothes and a cell phone.
Police, who have no suspects in the incident, were called to the scene to investigate what appeared to be an abandoned car, the News-Democrat reported.
"When police officers arrived to investigate the abandoned car, they found some socks and shoes," Baxton was quoted as saying. "We believe they belong to the victim."
