Belo Down in April on Like-Day Basis

By: E&P Staff Belo reported on Wednesday that total revenue for its Newspaper Group grew 5.2% in April on a 3.7% increase in ad revenue. April 2006 had one more Sunday than April 2005. Adjusted for the extra Sunday, ad revenue for the group declined 2%.

At The Dallas Morning News, on a like-day basis, total revenue increased slightly and advertising revenue dropped 3.9%. Classified revenue slipped 6%. Within that category, help wanted grew 6.1%; real estate declined 8.4%; and automotive plummeted 20%.

On a like-day basis, total revenue and advertising revenue at The Providence (R.I.) Journal was up slightly in April. Classified real estate increased 17%.

At The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., ad revenue increased slightly and total revenue dropped about half of a percent on a like-day basis. Classified real estate rose 22%.
