By: Dallas-based Belo said Monday morning that it will end its relationship with CareerBuilder Inc., the online recruitment company owned by Knight Ridder and Tribune Co., effective Aug. 1. Belo's newspapers and TV stations will switch to CareerSite, a privately held company in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Belo partnered with CareerBuilder in April 2001.

"We have enjoyed a successful affiliation with CareerBuilder, and have mutually determined that it is best to conclude the relationship at this time," said Belo Senior Vice President/Business Development Colleen B. Brown in a statement. She said "Belo has well-established local media brands that we are successfully leveraging online. Partnering with CareerSite gives us maximum flexibility to continue to leverage our brands, and to do so in all our geographic markets. Additionally, CareerSite's technical solution is among the best in the business."

Eric Christensen, vice president/general manager of Belo Interactive, added: "CareerSite's technology gives us the flexibility, speed, and accuracy necessary to fulfill our customers' changing needs. Rather than just a software tool, the CareerSite service offers us an established network and a complete online recruitment solution."

Belo said it will launch its newspaper sites with CareerSite on Aug. 1, with its TV affiliates launching later.

CareerSite's platform includes an e-recruiting tool for employers and a confidential career service for job seekers. The company says it currently powers over 150 job sites.
