Belo Outsources IT Infrastructure

By: E&P Staff Belo is outsourcing its information technology infrastructure to IBM in 5 and a half-year deal. IBM will handle all IT functions related to Belo?s television, newspaper, online, and cable properties.

As a result of the agreement, nine of Belo's regional data centers will be consolidated into two IBM data centers over a one-year period beginning Oct. 1.

Dennis Williamson, Belo's executive vice president and CFO, said in a statement the move will allow Belo to operate quickly with more cost efficiency.

Belo will retain responsibility for setting the strategic direction of its technology functions, and IBM will provide the day-to-day support with Belo's data center and server, voice and data network, help desk, and desktop support
