Belo Partners With Yahoo! HotJobs

By: E&P Staff Belo has signed a distribution agreement to become the exclusive newspaper partner of Yahoo! HotJobs in Dallas, Texas and Providence, R.I. Beginning in early 2006, employers who advertise in The Dallas Morning News and The Providence Journal or on their respective Web sites (www.dallasnews.com, www.projo.com) can automatically have those jobs posted on Yahoo! HotJobs (www.hotjobs.com).

Wes Jackson, vice president, general manager of Belo Interactive, told E&P Monday the deal would include a combination of bundled and upsell packages. The aim is to implement the partnership by the first part of 2006, possibly as early as January.

"What is attractive is a combination of a couple of things," Jackson explained. "HotJobs brings a national platform to our local advertisers. We bring to the table a pretty robust local sales network."

Jackson said Belo presented the idea to some of its employer advertisers and the response was positive. Jackson said Belo would wait and see how the partnership fared in Dallas and Providence before deciding whether to extend it to the company's other media properties.

In a statement announcing the deal, Dunia Shive, Belo's executive vice president, said, "Our customers will be able to access a significantly broader scope of job seekers at all levels and across all industries through Yahoo! HotJobs."

Dan Finnigan, executive vice president and general manager, Yahoo! HotJobs, said, "This relationship recognizes the complementary nature that online recruiting brings to other advertising vehicles, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. Not only will Belo's job postings be included in the Yahoo! HotJobs database, they will also be available to job seekers through other Yahoo! properties."
