By: E&P Staff After an exgended search--which was chronicled recently in The New York Times--The Atlantic Monthly today named as its new editor James Bennet, a longtime Times reporter.
Bennet, 39, promptly resigned from the newspaper.
David G. Bradley, the magazine's owner, has been looking for an editor for nearly a year, and got advice from 80 people about it, he said recently.
Bennet has covered political campaigns and served as Jerusalem bureau chief for The Times. He was slated to become the paper's Beijing correspondent later this year .
He resigned from the paper once before to work at The New Yorker, but quickly changed his mind.
