By: E&P Staff The Arizona Republic in Phoenix received more than 1,350 letters reacting to Steve Benson's June 5 editorial cartoon about the Haditha massacre.
Benson's
cartoon showed the United States Marine Corps (USMC) emblem dripping blood. And the Republic staffer wrote in the drawing that USMC stands for "United States Massacre Cover-Up."
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Benson's work is distributed by Creators Syndicate. A conservative Creators columnist, Michelle Malkin, helped generate some of the 1,350-plus letters by giving contact info on her blog for people to write the Republic. She also posted three letters criticizing the cartoon. Other conservative bloggers spoke out against the drawing, too.
Alan Gardner discussed the reaction to the cartoon today on his
blog.
