By: E&P Staff New business models, innovations and new responses to changing consumer behavior will be examined at Beyond the Printed Word 2009, the 17th World Digital Publishing Conference, to be held in Barcelona, Spain, Nov. 5-6.

"Beyond 2009" will present new ideas and tools, "and bring together the brightest minds in digital publishing," according to the organizer. Its evolving conference program and registration information (early-registration discount available) is at www.ifra.com/beyond.

The event will benefit from the recent merger of the World Association of Newspapers and IFRA, the global press organizations, which recently merged to form the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers. The new association represents 18,000 newspapers, 15,000 online sites and more than 3,000 companies in 120-plus countries.

Built around the consumer, Beyond 2009's sessions focus on research to improve usability and to measure success and loyalty; on innovation in mobile services, e-readers and other platforms; and on search, social networks, local content and paid-for models.

The conference venue is the Hotel Skipper in the Barceloneta neighborhood, easily accessible from the airport and a very short walk from the beaches and nightlife. For more information, contact Communications and Public Affairs Director Larry Kilman at larry.kilman@wan-ifra.org.
