Maariv, believed to be Israel's second-largest daily, may convert its weekday print editions to digital only, retaining only its weekend edition in print.
Haaretz.com, Website of another large Tel Aviv daily, reported yesterday that Maariv's new shareholder, Zaki Rakib, soon to be named its chairman, is exploring a digital alternative for e-readers, electronic tablets or smartphones.
The competitor's Website had no details and said it received no comment from Maariv.
Haaretz reporter Shahar Ran described the pending electronic edition as "customized for each subscriber, which would allow Maariv to expand certain sections." The reports added that the conversion is expected soon, perhaps within weeks, after Rakib gains half of control of Maariv.
