Big Shareholders Drop E.W. Scripps, Trim Media General Stakes

By: Mark Fitzgerald E.W. Scripps Co.?s second-largest institutional shareholder has sold off all its stake in the publisher of the Rocky Mountain News and other papers. Harris Associates, which held a 5.13% stake as recently as late September said in a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing that it now holds no Scripps stock.

And in a separate SEC filing, the activist hedge fund Harbinger Capital Partners disclosed its holdings had slipped below 5%. Harbinger earlier this year fought a proxy battle to seat representatives on the Richmond-based parent company of the Tampa Tribune.
