By: E&P Staff Canadian newspaper publisher Ladysmith (B.C.) Press has opened its new printing facility -- an expansion project that features the addition of six Goss Community SSC printing units to a Goss Community press.
"We realized that if the company was to continue to expand and serve the needs of its growing market it would have to extend its press capabilities," Vern Percival, press manger at the Victoria press plant of Black Press, said in a statement, citing "a positive experience with Community SSC presses in Ladysmith and at the Goldstream News Gazette in nearby Victoria.
Ladysmith Press added a four-high Community SSC tower and a two-high tower, boosting capacity to eight broadsheet pages in full color or 16 pages mono with an additional four pages in full color.
Ladysmith Press increased the size of its facility from 9,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet by relocating to a new site in Ladysmith. The plant prints 12 weeklies and six dailies, amounting to a weekly press run exzceeding 485,000 copies, as well as numerous insertions and special jobs, according to Ladysmith Press Manager Barie Morris.
