By: E&P Staff At The Birmingham (Ala.) News, three editors have been promoted to senior positions in the newsroom, effective April 5.
Chuck Clark has been named managing editor. Clark, 48, joined the newspaper in 2006 as assistant managing editor. In his new role, he will oversee the News? local and business news reporting and its features sections.
Previously, Clark served as an editor at The Tennessean in Nashville, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer, The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., The Indianapolis Star and the Orlando Sentinel.
Scott Walker, 38, has also been named managing editor, with oversight of the editing and production desks, photo department, art department and sports department. Walker joined the News as a page designer in 2001 and was promoted to senior editor responsible for the Sunday edition. He was later named assistant managing editor overseeing the news desk, copy desk, photo department and art department.
In addition, Walker has been an editor for the Anderson (S.C.) Independent-Mail, The Tribune in Fort Pierce, Fla., and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
Staci Brooks has been promoted to director of interactive content, overseeing the paper?s editorial content on al.com. Brooks, 32, joined the News in 2002 as a copy editor and has served as a features reporter, assistant features editor and assistant metro editor.
Previously, Brooks served as a copy editor at the Detroit Free Press and the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News.
Clark and Walker assume many of the duties of Hunter George, who is retiring as executive editor at the end of April. George has spent more than four decades in the newspaper business.
