Black Loyalist Leaves Hollinger

By: (AP) An executive vice president of Hollinger Inc. has left the Toronto-based holding company that is at the center of Conrad Black's shrunken newspaper empire, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

Hollinger disclosed in a brief statement that Jack Boultbee, a longtime associate of Black, "no longer continues" in his post and would be replaced by Peter White, the company's secretary. White had been chief operating officer and will now carry on as vice president of operations.

Boultbee, a 61-year-old accountant, is part of the so-called Black group accused by the new management of Hollinger International Inc. of having enriched themselves at the expense of shareholders.

He was removed from the Hollinger Inc. board last month by order of an Ontario Superior Court judge who also removed Black's wife, Barbara Amiel Black, and co-chief operating officer David Radler as directors.

Hollinger Inc. owns 18 per cent of the equity and 68 per cent of the voting control of Hollinger International, which after selling the Telegraph group of London and the Jerusalem Post owns the Chicago Sun-Times and a group of small papers in the Chicago area.

Black has stepped down as chairman and chief executive officer of Hollinger Inc. while moving to buy out minority shareholders and take the company private.

Hollinger International, now run by independent directors, is suing Black, Hollinger Inc., Boultbee and others for $542 million accusing them of looting the newspaper company.
