By: E&P Staff To improve classified ad sales and readability of its ads, the Black Press/Vancouver Island Division, Victoria, B.C., has licensed MediaPlus Classified Advertising and MediaPlus Pagination from Minneapolis-based Publishing Business Systems.
Available with Oracle or Microsoft SQL database compatibility, MediaPlus Classified Advertising is being installed on SQL for Black Press/Vancouver Island.
Citing the division's "outdated classified technology and servers scattered throughout a vast geographical region," Black Press (BC) Chief Operating Officer Rick O'Connor said in a statement that PBS will supply a centralized server for operation of one main sales center, giving sales reps faster access to information and improving customer service. MediaPlus Pagination's flexibility, he added, will help to enhance classified ads' look and readability.
Black Press' Vancouver Island papers expect to take advantage of MediaPlus Classified Advertising's extras and up-selling features to boost sales, which it said PBS solutions already had accomplished at its Lower Mainland Group. (The company also serves two other regions in British Colombia and publishes newspapers in Alberta, Washington state, Hawaii and Ohio.)
MediaPlus Classified Advertising offers nine up-selling options that automatically update an ad's price as options are selected. Reps get on-screen sales tips for soliciting extra customer information. Sales reps also can schedule priority placements, send e-mail proofs, and see records of customers' placements.
