Blair's Publisher to Be Liquidated

By: E&P Staff Jayson Blair's publisher will soon be no more. New Millennium Entertainment will be liquidated under an order signed this week by a bankruptcy court judge in Los Angeles.

New Millennium published Blair's tell-all, "Burning Down My Master's House," on the disgraced reporter's experience at The New York Times earlier this year. The book was panned by most critics and sold far below expectations. It is currently ranked 40,000 on the amazon.com sales chart.

The publisher filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September. This week Los Angeles-based trustee Alfred Siegel won court approval of an emergency motion to convert the case to Chapter 7, which entails liquidation of the company's assets.

The company's head, Michael Viner, who stepped down as CEO last month, previously published such books as "Nicole Brown Simpson: The Private Diary of a Life Interrupted" by Faye Resnick.

According to a report in the New York Daily News, the firm ended up $2.5 million in debt. Future titles that had been promised by the company included Bill Maher's "Keep the Statue of Liberty Closed" and "The Rise and Fall of Michael Eisner" by Richard Hack and David Barry.
