Blethen Announces Retirement From 'The Seattle Times'

By: E&P Staff Will Blethen, the treasurer and corporate risk manager for The Seattle (Wash.) Times, has announced his retirement, the paper reported today.

Blethen has been with the paper since 1969, and has held the position of treasurer since 1974. He is also the fourth generation member of the Blethen family, who were owners of the Times.

While at the Times, Blethen oversaw the creation of the company?s Fund for the Needy, which is an annual reader fund drive that benefits local non-profit health and human service organizations, particularly those that work with children and families. Blethen has also served on the boards of several organizations, including the Center for Wooden Boats, Steamer Virginia V, and the Animal Care and Use Committee at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Blethen will continue to work at the Times in the capacity of an emeritus on the paper?s editorial board. He will also continue his board service at The 5th Avenue Theatre Association.
