By: E&P Staff Blogger Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine.com took a swipe at Connie Schultz of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland in a recent blog posting that criticized her view of new efforts to "protect" newspapers from Web links and other copyright infringement.
He also takes on two First Amendment lawyers cited by Schultz who apparently agree that new efforts to strengthen copyright law are positive.
In his posting Sunday, Jarvis stated: "they simply don't understand the economics of the internet. It's the newspapers that are free-riding, getting the benefit of links. These newspaper people are the ones trying to act as if they own the news and can monopolize it. Those days are over, thank God."
