By: E&P Staff ProImage's Nordic distributor, VBS, sold another NewsWay system to Sydsvenskan Tryck AB (STAB), Malmo, Sweden, completing its parent company's "NewsWay village" concept.
With NewsWay at DNEX in Stockholm since 2000 and at Boras Tidning Tryckeri AB (BTT) in Boras since last May, the STAB installation finalizes the "village" solution at the three plants' parent, newspaper printer Bold Printing Group.
The arrangement improves efficiency "by automating many tasks, streamlining workflows, minimizing errors" and better exploiting equipment, allowing fewer people to produce more work in less time with better control, VBS Director Bengt Brandeker said in a statement.
The village concept has all prepress work performed at the central prepress department of DNEX, with weeklong round-the-clock staffing. Planning is also undertaken centrally, with press information pulled from the various press control systems.
NewsWay software receives completed pages as PDFs; barcodes are automatically added to plate images to manage computer-to-plate output and punch bending. NewWay then RIPs, pairs and impositions, and transmits pages to local and remote print plants.
In all, NewsWay controls nine CTP machines: two at BTT, three at STAB, and four at DNEX. It automatically load balances platesetters and all other resources to maximize throughput and efficiency.
Information about when plates are ready, errors and other events is monitored and reported via JDF to the central and local departments, and is collected by a central system.
In case of a disaster, each site can handle all its production locally in a back-up workflow.
