By: E&P Staff The day is nearly here: Tuesday, when rock star Bono produces a special edition of the London daily The Independent. The newspaper today describes him as "a short, talkative pop star who wears sunglasses indoors," but full of ideas for his foray into print journalism.
Much of the issue will focus on Africa and half of the paper's revenue that day will go to programs for women and children with AIDS in Africa.
Bono will be play editor on Monday, with the usual story conferences and layout sessions. In what the paper called his biggest surprise, he has asked U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a noted pianist, to write about her ten favorite pieces of music. Will Professor Longhair make the list?
Bono has shown a willingness in the past to work with Bush administration officials in an effort to build bridges.
