By: E&P Staff Boone Newspapers Inc. bought The Post-Searchlight in Bainbridge, Ga., Saturday.

Boone acquired the 101-year-old twice-weekly from Sam and Mary Ann Griffin. Terms of the sale, announced on the newspaper's Web site, were not disclosed. The Editor & Publisher International Year Book lists the paper's paid circulation as 22,000 on Wednesdays and 6,900 on Saturdays.

Before the new purchase, Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based Boone Newspapers, principally owned by James B. "Jim" Boone, published 29 daily and weekly newspapers in Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota. The Post-Searchlight is the chain's 30th newspaper, and its first in Georgia.

Mark Pope will continue as the paper's general manager, and Sammy Griffin is staying on as advertising manager, respectively, the paper said.

The Post-Searchlight has been in the Griffin family since it was founded by E.H. "Pat" Griffin in 1907 as The Bainbridge Post, the newspaper noted. In 1915, Griffin The Searchlight, founded in 1898, and combined the two newspapers into The Post-Searchlight.
