By: Long-time sports writer Ron Borges is the leaving The Boston Globe after 24 years.
Borges is best known these days for his coverage of the New England Patriots and high-profile boxing matches.
He had just recently returned from a two-month suspension without pay for lifting material from a Tacoma, Washington, newspaper for his football notes column.
The Globe's sports editor said at the time that national football writers often exchange tidbits about their teams, but usually attribute them.
Borges tells the Globe he is excited to step back from the demands of daily sports reporting. He is writing a book about the NFL and will continue his television and radio appearances.
