By: Staff Reports Reporters Return To Their Beats
The Boston Globe has reassigned two of the paper's columnists to
reporting beats, the rival Boston Herald reports.
The Boston daily's removal of Diane White and Brian Mooney as
columnists adds two more names to the list of those who've exited the
beleaguered columnist positions in the last three years, according to
the Herald.
Diane White wrote a humor column that ran on Mondays and Thursdays, but
the writer has returned to her previous job as a features reporter for
the Living Section. Brian Mooney, who penned a local political column
for the Wednesday and Saturday editions, has returned to covering
politics.
Editor Matt Storin wouldn't comment on the reassignments, but told the
Herald there were "absolutely not" any factual errors in their
work.
Meanwhile, Jeff Jacoby, a columnist suspended for four months for using
somebody else's work as his own, returned to work this week after a
four-month suspension. Jacoby still denies the accusation.
Patricia Smith and Mike Barnicle were both fired in 1998 from the
Boston Globe after being accused of plagiarism and fabricating
columns.
