Brutkoski, 30, who grew up in Brandon but now lives in Boston where she works as a copy editor for the Boston Globe, won her first appearance on the television show Friday night and pocketed more than $20,000.
"It's pretty cool," Brutkoski said.
The episodes were filmed in December. Brutkoski will be on again today, but is not allowed to say whether she continues to win.
Brutkoski said her love of trivia, especially in the subjects of history and English literature, goes back to childhood. Her father was a social studies teacher and "He used to quiz me on stuff."
The person she really wanted to give credit to, though, was her high school Scholar's Bowl coach, Michael Dwyer. "He kind of instilled the trivia bug in me," she said.
The key to winning on "Jeopardy," Brutkoski said, is speed.
"You have to be quick on the buzzer," she said. "That's the thing. Everyone on the show has plenty of knowledge of random things. You have to have it all in your head and be able to think fast."
