'Boston Herald' Makes Online Columns Free Again

By: E&P Staff The Boston Herald has announced that it will no longer charge for access to its columnists' online articles.

Since early 2003, the paper had been requiring readers who did not subscribe to the print edition to pay to read the work of the columnists on the site. Readers could buy a month pass for $4.95 or spend $25.95 to get access for an entire year.

In an article on the site, Erin Purcell, executive vice president of Herald Interactive, swas quoted as saying "the benefits of allowing our readers full access to all of our content outweighs any revenue impact."
