Boston.com has enlisted New York-based Outbrain, a content recommendation platform, to enhance readers' experience on Boston.com while providing increased traffic and an additional revenue stream.

With the new platform, Boston.com will automatically alert readers to additional stories that may interest them at the end of each article. More than related links, Outbrain algorithms serve up stories of particular interest to different audience segments.

"We're always looking for cost-effective and innovative ways to increase user engagement across our Web site while providing the highest quality experience for our audience," Boston.com Vice President of Product Bob Kempf said in a statement. "This is a sophisticated way to refer readers to content and enhance their experience on the site."

Some recommended links will be paid for by third-party Websites.

"This new functionality will allow us to monetize every page on our site with a different approach from traditional advertising," Boston.com General Manager Lisa DeSisto said.

Boston.com is the latest in Outbrain's publisher network, which includes USA Today, iVillage, The Daily Beast, Slate, andTheStreet.
