By: E&P Staff The Boston Globe and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution have both signed on to use WorldNow's proprietary video-streaming solution, Video Producer, on their Web sites, WorldNow announced today.
WorldNow's Video Producer is an integrated browser-based tool that enables technical staff to edit, manage, and post video to news Web sites. The technology will offer readers richer content on these Web sites, and it also allows the media companies to monetize their online video streams by integrating video interstitials and customer advertiser "brand wrappers."
"It is critical to deliver news and information to our readers throughout the day in the format they demand, and what are saying loud and clear is that they want broadband video content," Jeff Moriarity, the vice president of product and technology at Boston.com, the Globe's Web site, said in a statement. "By streamlining the process of creating and encoding video, WorldNow has allowed us to quickly increase the amount of video content available on our site both for our users and for advertisers interested in reaching that audience."
Using the Video Producer system, Boston.com was able to make video coverage of Red Sox postseason play from New England Sports Network available on the site almost immediately after broadcast.
"Over the last five years WorldNow has helped local media companies generate over $50 million in incremental revenue by leveraging innovative technologies such as streaming video advertising," Gary Gannaway, WorldNow's CEO, said in a statement. "Now, local newspapers have the ability to leverage the explosive growth in broadband consumption, via WorldNow's streaming video management tools."
AJC.com, the Journal-Constitution's site, reaches 58 percent of the Atlanta online market. Boston.com has dominated its local media landscape since its launch in 1995, currently receiving more than 3.5 million unique visitors a month.
