Perhaps he shouldn’t have written that editorial after all.
Mike Alexieff, Managing Editor of the Daily News in Bowling Green, Ky., took a stand in an editorial several years ago on reporting Driving Under the Influence arrests after his paper was criticized for publishing the DUI of a former sheriff’s deputy whose family had suffered a tragedy. He claimed that public officials are just as accountable as regular citizens.
“Driving under the influence is the leading cause of fatal accidents on Kentucky roads,” he wrote. “And yes, if I get a DUI, you can be assured an article about it will be in the newspaper.”
Now, after his arrest for driving under the influence on federal property this weekend, Alexieff had to make good on his promise — and has resigned.
Alexieff was arrested Saturday night by a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife officer and cited for stopping, standing or parking on a limited access highway, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle and failure to maintain control of a vehicle, according to a report in the Daily News.
