Brady Shares 'Rose' Byline

Posted
By: Dave Astor After 20 years of doing his comic solo, "Rose is Rose" creator Pat Brady is now sharing a byline on the feature.

The other cartoonist is Don Wimmer, who has drawn "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" since 1989. That comic panel is syndicated by United Media, which also distributes "Rose is Rose" to more than 600 newspapers.

Brady wanted to reduce his "Rose is Rose" workload somewhat, according to Mary Anne Grimes, executive director of syndicate public relations for United. The comic is one of the most elaborately drawn in newspapers, with all kinds of artistic angles and flourishes.

Its creator declined to be interviewed, but said in a statement: "I am delighted to share the writing and drawing duties of 'Rose is Rose' with Don Wimmer, a cartoonist whose work I have admired for some time. 'Rose' has been a labor of love for me these past 20 years and I welcome the new creative opportunities another cartoonist can bring to the strip."

Brady is one of three finalists for the Reuben Award as top cartoonist of the year, which the National Cartoonists Society will present May 29 in Kansas City.
