Brenda Turner Named 'USA Weekend' Executive Editor

By: Joe Strupp USA Weekend has named Brenda Turner its new vice president and executive editor, effective immediately. She replaces Jack Curry, who has resigned, according to a release.

"Brenda is the perfect leader for these times - she is creative, spots opportunities and acts quickly. She understands what readers want and enjoy," Marcia Bullard, USA Weekend President & CEO, said in a statement. "Brenda has a deep knowledge of Sunday magazines and the newspaper business. No one can do a better job designing a magazine that serves our 700 newspapers and 49 million readers."

Turner has worked in Sunday magazines for more than 20 years. She had been managing editor of USA Weekend since 2004. "During her tenure, the magazine developed editorial alliances with many national media outlets and organizations, including the Food Network and NASCAR, and launched multiple online syndicated services, including the daily 'Who's News' celebrity news blog," the announcement said. "She was instrumental in the magazine's decision to create Make A Difference Day, which is now the nation's largest day of volunteer action."

Turner was a founding editor of USA Today. She has also worked at the El Paso (Tex.) Times, the Globe-Times in Bethlehem, Pa., and The Pocono Record in Stroudsburg, Pa.
